Blue Long Case Clock – Rococo and Neoclassical
Height : 230 cm
Length : 64 cm
Width : 20 cm
Blue long case clock from the transitional time between rococo and neoclassicism. Original blue paint and natural patina. The paint is slightly distressed after 250 years of use. Hand carved wooden decorations around the glass on the door and around the hood. Original mechanism, weights and pendulum. Working at the time of writing. We leave no guarantees on the future functions. The clock face have some age related wear – see pictures. Healthy and solid frame. Made in northern Sweden around 1790. Minor dry cracks along the skirt.
The clock is quite rare, both with the mixture of rococo and neoclassical elements but also because of the blue paint. Blue pigments used to be very expensive and only the most wealthy households could afford them. The curved shape and meticulously hand carved decorations are also indications of the high quality.
