Charming rococo chairs from northern Sweden. The chairs are provincial and folk art with original distressed paint. Made around 1770 with hand carved wooden decor in the shape of clam shells. Healthy and solid frame. One chair has an older repairs to the seat – see picture. This does not affect function or stability. One chair is slightly larger than the other and this because folk tradition stated that the head of the household had a larger chair and his wife a smaller one. It’s possible that the chairs were made for a wedding. There are traces of text one seat which we cannot decipher.
