Folk art mangle board from northern Sweden. The rich decorations indicated that the household was very wealthy. Hence they could afford the amount of time and effort spent on making it. This type of mangle is an early versions and used by hand. The damp cloth would be rolled around a wooden cylinder and the mangle board used to roll and flatten the fabric on the table. This is a typical proposal gift to the would-be bride from the groom. If he had the skill the groom would make it himself. Dated 1794 and monogrammed with the likely first owner’s initials. Original untouched condition.
