Gustavian country bench from northern Sweden made during the late 1700s. The bench is unusual and from the very north of Sweden, close to the Finnish border in an area called Tornedalen. Made in painted pine with the original faux paint and intricate carvings. The paint has an authentic patina of time after almost 250 years of use. The bench has hand carved wooden decor along the whole backrest and front. Because this is an untouched original piece there are some traces of use and a few minor cracks, mainly along the short ends. This does not effected the function or stability in any way. The seat is later and upholstered in unbleached linen fabric.
