Gustavian provincial wall table from northern Sweden. The table is from the late 18th century and a great example of country furniture. Made in painted pine with traces of the original paint as well as a genuine patina and natural wear. The table has straight tapered legs with an unusually well crafted knob to the drawer. The drawer also has an unusual lock mechanism with an iron spring underneath which locks the drawer. Last but not least is the customary ink stain inside the drawer. It appears to be almost a rite of passage for every table and desk to have some evidence of spilled ink from ink pots which were the staple stationery around the time. Today it’s a charming proof the items were well used. Height to rim is 58 cm.
