Low Gustavian Commode from the Neoclassical Period
Art.nr: 1389
Höjd : 82 cm
Längd : 108 cm
Bredd : 55 cm
Low gustavian commode from the neoclassical period. Made in Northern Sweden around 1790 to 1810. The chest of drawers is pine with historic red paint with some natural marks and wear after 250 years of use. Never painted inside. The chest has profiled corners on the frame and table top and so called dog ears on the table top. The chest has four drawers divided on three levels.
An unusual detail of the construction is the thin rim or border added around the drawers. Usually this is seen on chest made in more precious woods such as mahogany, in which case the rim is typically brass. Original working lock and key and later hardware. There are minor ink stains present in some drawers. One drawer has cracks in the bottom, made and repaired with linen fabric a long time ago. Healthy and solid frame.
