Swedish Red Rococo Cabinet from the Late 1700s
Height : 226 cm
Length : 120 cm
Width : 56 cm
Swedish red rococo cabinet from the late 1700s. The cabinet is painted pine and the paint is the untouched original first paint from the late 1700s. The deep paint combined with a genuine 250 year old patina gives the cabinet a genuine warmth and presence. The artfully bare trim on the doors and drawers creates depth and definition while the worn areas shows it’s impressive age. Traces of decoration paint on the doors along with the original lock that is in working condition.
The cabinet is in two parts. The upper cabinet has a Classic Rococo pediment and interior with shelves and drawers. The lower cabinet has four large drawers with the original hardware. The locks to the lower cabinet’s drawers are missing. As often seen, the cabinet also has the ink stains inside the drawers. This is a smaller detail which shows the origin of the cabinet as well as how it was used around the time it was made. Healthy and solid frame. Minor dry crack along the back of the upper cabinet, but it does not effect stability or function. The lower cabinet is 56 cm deep while the upper cabinet is 38 cm deep.
