Genuine Swedish secretary chest from the mid 1800s. Made by hand in solid pine in northern Sweden around 1850. Dating at the back reading 1854. Straight classic gustavian style with tall tapered legs. Note the completely smooth front, no trim or other details. Original paint with a technique called faux painting, on this chest the painter’s free interpretation of mahogany. Large writing desk that makes an excellent work surface with space for a laptop. Interior with multiple small drawers.

Underneath the desk the chest has two doors. Healthy and stable frame with working lock and key. However the small lock to the smaller door inside the desk is missing. There is a smaller dry crack in each door, at the center. This is because the panels have moved ever so slightly due to the surrounding humidity – nothing that effect function or stability. Height to the desk top is 78.5 cm. The depth of the desk top is 43.5 cm.
