Very unusual large bowl from northern Sweden. This antique wooden bowl has an organic shape and is made from hollowing a large piece of birch root. It has an early date underneath, 1758, as well as an owners mark and a previous owners initials. An attractive patina with a great sense of age – the bowl is almost 270 years old.
There are some smaller dry cracks on the sides and one of the iron handles is missing. Bowls like this were used in the household for storing, preparing and serving food. Being functional items it’s rare that they survive to present day, much less in as good a condition as this.
