Original painted chest from Sweden dated 1837. The chest also has painted initials KND where the D stands for Dotter, meaning daughter. At the time last names where not inherited but made up of the father first name and with the suffix -son for sons or -dotter for daughters. That means this chest was painted with a woman’s initials, most likely for a wedding.

The chest is from northern Sweden, made in pine and painted with the original paint. There are some traces of use, the lock is still present but the key is missing. The lid has a minor dry crack at the front – see picture. The interior has a so called lädicka which is a small compartment inside the chest. This chest has it on the left and it has small ink stains inside.
