Folk art bentwood box dated 1843. Signed with a monogram ending with ’D’, meaning the box have most likely belonged to a girl or young woman. As unmarried females last names often ended with ’dotter’ meaning daughter. It’s probable that the box was an engagement gift. These boxes are made from a single piece of bentwood. Stitched using roots or other natural fibers and with a solid base and lid. Decorated with a deep red base paint and black and white floral decorations. From Ångermanland.
