Northern Swedish gustavian sideboard from the late 18th century, around 1790 to 1800. The sideboard has the original paint with genuine distress and authentic patina. The paint is faux paint which imitates the appearance of other materials and here it’s charmingly worn after over two centuries of use. Both the corner posts and the rhombus panels on the doors have a ribbed decor. The drawers have the original brass hardware but the hinges to the doors are newer since the late 1800s. There is no lock but a wrought iron hasp that locks the door. Over the years a wooden spool was added to work as a handle to the door, however it can be removed on request. Healthy and solid frame.

The inside is bare wood and it always has been. The drawer also has the customary ink stain inside. For some reason the early owners always seem to spill ink inside the drawers from the ink pots that were the staple stationery around the time. Today it’s a charming proof the piece was well used.
